What We Treat?

Back pain can develop from lifting, long hours of sitting, physical activity, poor posture, repetitive strain, or changes in spinal alignment. It may involve the discs, spinal joints, soft tissue, sacroiliac joints, muscle imbalance, or a combination of these factors.

Patients may notice stiffness, aching, sharp sensations, tight muscles, limited movement, or difficulty with sitting, standing, bending, or exercise. Ongoing back pain can affect posture, mobility, sleep, work habits, and daily routines. Care focuses on the source of the back pain, spinal alignment, joint function, soft tissue tension, movement patterns, and exercises that support the spine between visits.

Neck pain can develop from poor posture, long hours on phones or computers, forward head position, muscle tension, joint misalignment, disc concerns, or past injuries. It may feel like stiffness, tightness, reduced range of motion, shoulder tension, or pain that affects daily activities.

Some patients also experience referred pain into the shoulders or arms, numbness, tingling, or headaches connected to stress in the upper cervical spine. Care focuses on neck alignment, posture, mobility, muscle tension, joint movement, and surrounding soft tissue support. Corrective exercises and lifestyle changes may also support better neck function over time.

Headaches and migraines can be connected to posture, neck tension, upper cervical stress, muscle tightness, or irritation around the nerves that travel from the neck toward the head and face. Some patients notice headaches after long periods of screen use, poor sleeping posture, neck stiffness, or past injuries.

The condition may include tension at the base of the skull, pressure around the head, neck tightness, reduced mobility, or recurring headache patterns. Care focuses on the neck, upper back, posture, muscle tension, spinal alignment, and mobility patterns that may be contributing to the headache cycle.

Sciatica can develop when pressure affects the sciatic nerve, often creating pain that travels down the back of the leg. In more severe cases, symptoms may travel toward the foot. Sciatica may come from disc protrusion, disc herniation, degenerative disc changes, nerve irritation in the lower back, or pressure from muscles in the buttock region.

Patients may notice leg pain, tingling, numbness, back pain, difficulty sleeping, or reduced activity tolerance. Care focuses on identifying whether the sciatic symptoms are coming from the spine, disc, nerve pathway, or surrounding musculature, then supporting better alignment, mobility, and nerve function.

A herniated disc can affect the lower back, neck, arms, or legs, depending on where the disc is located and whether nearby nerves are involved. Symptoms may include localized pain, leg pain, arm pain, numbness, tingling, sitting intolerance, stiffness, or reduced movement.

An MRI is the best way to confirm a herniated disc, while movement patterns, physical exam findings, and symptom behavior can help narrow down the concern. Care focuses on spinal alignment, pressure around the disc, nerve involvement, mobility, muscle support, and exercises that help the spine function with better balance over time.

Scoliosis can involve curvature, rotation, or asymmetry in the spine. Physical signs may include uneven shoulders, twisting through the torso, a rib hump, or one side of the back appearing more prominent than the other. Some cases are functional and related to muscle imbalance or spinal misalignment, while others are anatomical.

Scoliosis may or may not cause pain, but it can contribute to back pain, neck pain, posture changes, reduced mobility, or added stress on the spine. Care focuses on spinal mobility, alignment, biomechanics, posture, and long-term management of the stress created by spinal curvature.

Shoulder pain may come from the shoulder itself or from the neck and surrounding spinal structures. It can involve the rotator cuff, arthritis, muscle imbalance, sprain or strain patterns, shoulder mobility limits, or referred symptoms from the neck.

Patients may notice pain with lifting, pressing, reaching, workouts, daily tasks, or sleeping positions. Some cases involve a reduced range of motion, weakness, tightness, or discomfort through the shoulder girdle. Care focuses on identifying whether the shoulder concern is coming from the joint, soft tissue, neck, upper back, or surrounding movement patterns, then supporting better mobility and function.

Sports injuries can affect active patients, retired athletes, weekend athletes, surfers, golfers, soccer players, and people who stay physically active in the Carlsbad community. Common concerns may include sprain and strain injuries, disc-related symptoms, neck pain, back pain, shoulder pain, mobility issues, stiffness, or pain that appears during or after activity.

Athletes may notice reduced performance, difficulty with rotation, soreness after activity, numbness, tingling, or repeated tightness in the same area. Care focuses on spinal alignment, soft tissue strain, mobility, joint movement, activity tolerance, and exercises that support better function during sports and daily movement.

Pregnancy can place added pressure on the pelvis and lower back as the baby grows. This can increase the curve in the lower back, affect spinal alignment, irritate nearby nerves, or contribute to back pain and sciatica.

Patients may notice lower back discomfort, pelvic pressure, sciatic symptoms, stiffness, or changes in movement as pregnancy progresses. Care focuses on spinal and pelvic alignment, lower back function, soft tissue tension, and comfort with daily movement during pregnancy. Gentle methods may be used based on the patient’s stage of pregnancy, comfort level, and clinical findings.

Knee pain can be connected to the knee joint itself, pelvis alignment, lower body movement patterns, or the way the knee moves during activity. Patients may notice discomfort with walking, stairs, exercise, sports, or standing for long periods.

Because the knee works closely with the pelvis, hips, and lower back, care considers how these areas are moving together. Knee concerns may involve joint motion, surrounding soft tissue, activity strain, or compensation from another area of the body. Evaluation focuses on knee movement, pelvis alignment, and function through the lower body.

About La Costa Chiropractic & Wellness

La Costa Chiropractic & Wellness provides chiropractic care focused on evaluation, education, and individualized care planning. The clinic has served the Carlsbad and La Costa community for 47 years, with care centered on understanding each patient’s condition, daily routine, activity level, posture, and long-term health goals.

The practice works with adults, families, athletes, children, and pregnant patients through chiropractic adjustments, supportive therapies, posture guidance, mobility recommendations, and practical education for spinal health. Each visit is designed to help patients understand what is happening in their body and what steps may support better movement, alignment, and function.

Care at La Costa Chiropractic & Wellness is guided by service, trust, education, and clear communication. Patients are given time to discuss their concerns, review their history, and understand exam findings before moving forward with care.

The clinic’s purpose is to support patients in regaining and optimizing their health naturally while educating them about chiropractic and wellness. Recommendations are based on the patient’s history, examination, lifestyle, and clinical findings, not a standard template. The team focuses on helping patients understand their spine, movement patterns, and daily habits that may affect long-term function.

La Costa Chiropractic & Wellness uses modern chiropractic tools and diagnostic support to help evaluate spinal function and guide care recommendations. Available technology and clinical tools may include surface electromyography, spinal thermal scanning, X-rays when clinically necessary, drop table, Cox flexion distraction, cervical traction, Activator technique, muscle stimulation, cold laser therapy, therapeutic ultrasound, moist heat, and percussive massage.

Technology is used to support examination findings, patient education, and treatment planning. Care recommendations are based on each patient’s condition, comfort level, mobility, and response to care. The goal is to combine chiropractic care with supportive therapies that help improve movement, alignment, and overall spinal function.

Patients can expect a clear process from the first visit. The clinic begins by learning what brought the patient in, reviewing symptoms and lifestyle factors, and completing a detailed examination when needed. Findings are explained clearly, so patients understand what is going on and what options are available.

Each care plan is built around the individual patient. Recommendations may include chiropractic care, supportive therapies, prescribed exercises, dos and don’ts, ergonomic changes, and nutritional guidance when appropriate. Progress is reviewed throughout care, and recommendations may be updated based on how the patient responds.
